About the artist
Alec is a young International artist who works between studios in the UK, India and France. His practice, oil on canvas, is traditional in medium but the images that jump in and around the canvas are vibrant and playful. They celebrate life and all it has to offer.
When Alec’s paintbrush touches the canvas he is painting both from memory and also maybe from objects or people, things and feelings in the room with him. Alec is an explorer in the true sense of the word. Having embraced his new life in India he is constantly looking at things around him, architecture, gardens, paintings in the museums, the list is endless as for an artist like Alec, anything can become a visual reference point. He may be amused by a stack of wobbly tyres on the side of the road or wonder at how the sunlight throws colours around the folds of a translucent sari that passes him on the street.
In Alec’s images we are offered bits of things we may recognise but the beauty of abstraction is that we are just not sure, so we, the viewer, can make up our own mind about what we are looking at. What we see can also change from day to day and we may just wish to luxuriate in the colours and line and envision images different from the ones we enjoyed yesterday.
